Glossy without being international, polished without being overtly oaky, La Gerla’s Rosso is an outright crowdpleaser with delicately creamy strawberry fruit, cherry jam and a hint of raspberry coulis, with fine acid and tannin structure that carry the flavours through to a herb-spiked finish. From younger vines across the estate’s 12ha, this is aged in oak barrels of various capacities for up to a year. Good value and no hurry to drink.

The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino is perfumed and exotic with pretty rose tones and sour citrus complicating its tart cherry fruit. This is silky-smooth and pliant with ripe wild berries and autumnal spices that swirl throughout. It finishes with staining length, leaving lingering licorice and sage traces.
