This Julienas has a very appealing interplay of restrained tannins and red fruit character with a lot of subtle spicy and earthy nuances. Juicy on the front and middle of the medium-bodied palate, then the tannins build nicely at the long, moderately dry and lively finish.

The 2021 Julienas Château des Capitans is (again) quite reserved on the nose with slightly tertiary red fruit, touches of sage and clove. The palate is well-balanced with sappy orange rind-laced fruit. Not long but there is decent freshness and no signs of under-ripeness.

The 2022 Juliénas - Château des Capitans has an attractive, pure, dark cherry- and raspberry-scented bouquet that needs a touch more lift. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit and pointed acidity that doesn't quite gel with the body of the wine. It also shows a bit of hardness on the finish. Maybe give it a year in bottle?
