From estate vines planted in '86; raised in French oak (about 25% new) for 18 months. Though impeccably varietal, this skips any overt leafiness, leaning into cedar, mulberry, cassis, currant and a toasted nori regional note. Lifted cabernet perfume is there, though, along with both power and a certain refinement of delivery, with tannins expertly managed to pair with fruit weight. It’s fine value.

I don’t know whether it’s just me, or a change in style, but these Coriole Estate wines maybe show a little more obvious oak then they did previously. Red and black fruits, honey cornflakes, and some nougat. It’s medium to full-bodied, vanilla oak is quite present here, in with slightly squishy red and blue fruits, along with some seaweed and tobacco, tannin is quite grainy and there’s a sweet poached strawberry finish of solid length, albeit with some warmth. It’s a decent wine, though it lacks intensity and the usual Coriole ferrous depth. And it’s a little too gummy on the finish.
