The 2021 Pinot Noir The Art is a suave, spiced, welcoming wine that blossoms in the mouth. This particular cuvee is a 'let-the-winemaker-loose' expression. There's some lavish winemaking here: you'll find herbal spices coming from 30% whole bunches and the lower bass notes of cinnamon and toast derived from a generous 50% new oak. It's a well-built Pinot that needs time to shed its youthful vigor but will retain its structure freshness and length.

The Art as opposed to The Science. Here’s the chewy, dense and dark premium Rockburn. Has lots of dark cherry, dried black olive, minty herbs, game meat characters. The palate while chompy and dry, has some good, albeit intense pinot noir density and glossiness to revel in. Bolder version, doing well, with rich yet pure fruit the mainstay.

This has a complex nose of cherry stones, rose hips, crushed stones, watermelon, espresso beans and spice box. Toasty elements develop on the palate. Firm and sturdy tannin frame here, with a medium to full body and compact, dark-fruited finish. Better after 2024.

The 2021 The Art Pinot Noir is sweet-fruited and spicy in the mouth, with a tart line of acidity that courses through the fruit. This is fleshy and bright, with pink peppercorns, a hint of sumac and layers of cherries. Pretty and composed. The tannins are grainy and gently grippy through the finish. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
