Winemakers Note

The estate Château MARJOSSE is a historic estate built in 1782 and located 14 km south of Saint-Emilion. Its history took a major turn in the early 1990s when the Deleuze family decided to lease part of the parcels to a young ambitious winemaker named Pierre Lurton, who would become the current General Manager of Yquem and Cheval Blanc. Little by little, he bought back the different parcels of the estate and opened a new chapter in 2017 with the arrival of Jean Marc Domme as technical director. The rest of the story is still being written as Pierre and Jean-Marc dive deeper and deeper into the subtleties of this magnificent terroir seeking to capture its essence vintage after vintage. Its 35ha vineyard is located on exceptional clay and limestone soils. Pierre Lurton's "Secret Garden" is a patchwork of young and old vines, almost a century old. The vintage This vintage will go down in history as a test of resilience, where nature dictated its law in harsher ways than usual. The weather conditions and clay-limestone terroirs yielded vivacious, floral and tense merlots. The cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon were a pleasant surprise, maturing well and evenly. Tasting notes The 2021 Marjosse distinguishes itself by its sublety and relative restraint. The aroma is delicate and floral with tinges of cassis and raspberry. Extraction was ever so gentle and it’s lower in alcohol than in previous years, reminiscent of a style of Bordeaux of years gone by.
