The Lalù 2021 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte is a complete and finely balanced wine, offering light berry fruit, floral notes and small-grained tannins that feel elegant rather than austere. Energy defines the palate, with a sense of lift that carries through the finish and supported by a delicate vinification that favors infusion over extraction. Drawn from a windy, southern Monforte d'Alba site with pale white marl soils and fermented in Austrian wooden vats with extended but largely static maceration, this Barolo highlights finesse as a defining feature of the estate’s approach.

Just the third vintage for this young partnership between Lara Rocchetti and Luisa Sala. There is an initial toasty top note but less of a wood imprint than the first two vintages, which seasoned Lalù’s single Austrian oak cask. It settles into dark cherry, freshly turned earth, mint and dusty sage. The density of Monforte is lifted by a mid-palate acid crunch, injecting freshness and vivaciousness. It expands with tangy rhubarb flavours and ample layers of powdery tannins. Balsamic herbs on the finish foreshadow what is to come.
