2021 Domaine Chapelle La Chapelle Hermitage Rouge 1500ml

Made from 100% Syrah grown on the Hermitage hillside, on a blend of granitic soils at Les Bessards and Varogne and pebble soils on higher terraces like Le Méal and Rocoules, from vines planted between 1955 and 1994, certified organic since 2016 and biodynamic since 2018. The 2021 season had a dry autumn (except December), a fast-starting but then slowed spring with black frost in early April, and a cool, wet summer; harvest ran from 26 September to 7 October. Grapes are hand-harvested into small crates and hand-sorted, then fermented for around 10 days at 22–28°C with indigenous Northern Rhône yeasts, followed by around two weeks of post-fermentation maceration, then matured for 12 months in French oak (15% new) and cement concrete eggs with malolactic fermentation. Alcohol is 13.5%.
