Emelia-Romagna. Cherries, new leather, dried herbs and mint, spice, dried flowers. It’s medium-bodied, distinctly savoury and ferrous, hazelnut, bitter almond and cherry, some chewy and chalky grip to tannin, but fresh too, and the finish is bright and long. It’s a very specific wine, if that makes any sense, and very good it is too.

The organic Chiara Condello 2022 Romagna Sangiovese Predappio is a laser-focused and beautifully sharp expression of one of Italy's noblest grapes. We are familiar with Sangiovese wines from Tuscany, but Emilia-Romagna offers worthy alternatives, such as this delightful bottle. The style is punchy and primary with candied cherry, pop rock and a distant hint of white pepper. The wine's medium- to full-bodied texture is layered with fresh acidity and chalky tannins. Production is 32,000 bottles for this great value entry-level wine.

Emilia-Romagna. Gee, the amount of times web based retailers have an old note of mine against the current vintage is kind of annoying. It happens more than it should. Anyway. Cherry, new leather, dried herbs, a dusting of spice and pepper, some red liqourice. It’s medium-bodied, savoury and quite chewy in tannin, cherry and bitter almond, has something of a ferrous and ‘minerally’ feel too, pulls firm on the finish with an amaro twist and very good length. Kind of rustic, but in a healthy way. No shortage of character.
