Among the great varieties of the southern Rhône, clairette is a rocket ship of acidity and mineral pungency. This, a lightweight, frisky version, effusing young vines with requisite primary fruit and verve, via a cool ferment in tank and a blend of free-run juice and pressings. Think quince, orange blossom and jasmine, skittering along rails of talc and a gentle chew. Delicious drinking, with a bright future as the vineyard matures.

Fennel and almond notes, then subtle lemon on the palate. Light-bodied for a Clairette, with a fresh aromatic display. Refreshing and drinkable style with a tonic drinkability. Hand picked, whole-bunch pressed, fermented in stainless steel.

Clairette as a solo act from McLaren Vale. Delightful, lighter, powdery-textured white wine here. Scents of lime and talc, juicy red apple flavours and licks of pumice stone dryness. Easy going, simple in a way, but not without its own character. Great spring/summer white.

The 2021 Welkin Clairette is neutral and crunchy, with a pretty, fine fruit profile and crispy sheets of acidity in the mouth. The palate includes watered-down pear and crunchy green apple, and all the characters are delicate and lightweight. I imagine this would be relatively sensational in summer on a hot day. Clairette is usually a blending variety, which is likely where it fits in terms of its features.
