Product Highlights
When our Head of Wine Buying, Mark ‘Poll’ Pollard, sends a message like this, we pay attention. Serious attention.
“These are the finds that are so exciting. Hadn’t heard of the label. On paper ticked all the boxes. No expectations. Then, this Eden Valley Shiraz 2020 blew us away in the tasting. Absolutely bang on!”
And Poll’s reaction makes sense. This is a single-vineyard, hand-crafted Shiraz from Keyneton in the Eden Valley, the high country of the Barossa and home to some of Australia’s most celebrated Shiraz.
Crafted using only the finest barrels from the vintage, this limited-release bottling represents the top of the range from this small, 5-Star Halliday-rated winery.
The fruit was hand-picked and handled with minimal intervention to let the character of this unique site shine through. After 18 months maturation in small-format oak barrels, the wine was given further time in bottle before release.
And it shows.
Expect layers of dark berry fruit, mulberry, plum and liquorice, with hints of dark chocolate, coffee, spice and florals. There’s plenty of depth and generosity here, balanced by fine, granitic tannins and bright acidity that keeps everything moving through to a long, black-fruited finish.
Halliday Wine Companion’s Dave Brookes was equally impressed, awarding it 95 points, while Angus Hughson of The Vintage Journal scored it 94 points.
Brookes describes “damson plum, boysenberry and mulberry” alongside fine spice, liquorice, purple flowers and choc-berry fruit, all supported by tight tannins and quartz-like acidity.
Premium Eden Valley fruit, serious attention to detail and plenty of bottle age. A cracking Shiraz that more than lives up to Poll’s first impression.
