Marani Saperavi Qvevri Red Dry 2021 is a proud expression of Georgian winemaking heritage. Made from hand-picked Saperavi grapes, it’s fermented and matured in underground clay qvevri—a method protected by UNESCO and practised for millennia. 

Qvevri fermentation gives this wine savoury layers of dried herbs, black tea, leather, and inky dark fruit. The structure sits hand in hand with a South Australian Cabernet, with Coonawarra coming to mind. This has the firmest tannins from the range, making it great for sipping now with a hearty meal or laying down for up to a decade. This is as traditional as it comes.

To me, it most closely resembles a Rutherglen Durif but drier and more tannic as most European reds are compared to their Australian counterparts.
