Almost opaque, deep crimson to dark red. Immediately rich yet elegant bouquet, deep dark plum and baked cherries. Nutmeg, chocolate and coffee hints build with time. Layered and complex, texture beginning silky smooth and highly polished. Tannin intensity climbs to provide assertive and very fine tannins, offering perfect support to carry blackberry, satsuma and dark plum, and rich cherry through the very long palate. Subtle hints of dried fig and cocoa bean add interest to the dry spice notes from the nose. Succulent, driven acidity increases intensity and lifts fruit vibrancy throughout the palate, marrying with the tannins to define a firmly structured finish, assuring its ageability and prowess.
Critic Reviews
95 POINTS
Ned Goodwin - JamesSuckling.com
A big, heavy bottle for an impactful wine. So dense. An array of dark fruits, molten and almost llicorella-pungent, oozing across a landscape saturated with lavender, five-spice, licorice strap and mace. The oak, positioned well. The fruit, capable of handling almost anything thrown at it. Long and forceful. Southern Rhone of feel, without the tannic mettle. This has some way to go.
Christina Pickard - Wine Enthusiast
Firmly in the big, glossy, expensive red-wine category, this certainly doesn't skimp on flavor. There's a sheen of vanilla-mocha oak atop blackberry jam and clove spice. The palate is powerful and tightly gripped by chalky tannins. There's elevated acidity which gives the fruit bite and tartness. Call it a black-tie wine, if overly polished and generic for this reviewer's taste.
