The 2019 Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva is dark, rich and brooding, with a whiff of savory herbs giving way to crushed stones and strawberry sauce. This is elegant and refined within, easily casting silky waves of ripe red and blue fruit across the palate. A sour citrus tinge adds contrast. The 2019 leaves a web of gentle tannins as hints of wild blueberry and licorice slowly fade. This is already showing beautifully, yet it should also excel over the next three to five years.

Bricks, clay and more metallic, umami aromas of iron-rich top soil, pencil shavings and grilled meat blend with strawberries and cherries on the nose. The palate of this wine has spicy notes of black pepper and chili pepper against sweet-savory fruit flavors, evoking a very ripe cherry tomato. Easygoing tannins with chocolate and leather on the finish show the qualities of a little aging.
