Another absolute cracking wine from the Adelaide Hills, again with considerable maturation time in the cellar already under its belt. This is utterly ridiculous value. The fruit is a combination of the family’s vineyards and trusted growers. Around 2,000 dozen made. Purple maroon, this exhibits a freshness it has no right to offer. We have notes of spices, chocolate, blackberries, plums, animal skins, mulberries and bergamot. There is some good complexity already evident here and a sweet core of chocolate on the palate. Fine, if ever-so-slightly firm tannins, this is a wine with serious length. It should drink beautifully for at least the next ten to twelve years. Love it. And did I mention the value?

From the Drogemuller Family’s unique plateau setting in the northern Adelaide Hills, this Shiraz comes with a solid display of rich, ripe fruit – blueberry and plum to the fore – French oak spice (after 20 months barrel maturation) along with a complete weave of dark chocolate and a mix of white and black pepper. Lots to take in here, with herbal notes suggestive of wintry gum forest also adding to the aromatics through nose and palate, while dark plum and cool mint echo in the finish. Great to see such a wine on release with so much time already invested to find its best drinking window – and plenty still up its sleeve.

A meeting of blackberries and wild raspberries, held by chocolatey oak and coffee syrup spice. There is a lacework of clove, sage leaf and soft licorice too, some old fashioned pencil box. The palate delivers all that’s promised with thirst quenching acidity that brightens and enlivens, this is an excellent vintage that is only just finding its straps, another 3-6 years will allow it to develop its more grunge, earthy and red fruited side. For now this is an absolute steal at the price, don’t question it just buy multiple cases before the prices go up. What a country we live in when wine, this good, is so affordable. Serve it with a hearty lamb stew or cottage pie.

A silky smooth example of a cooler climate Shiraz. It works so beautifully. Everything sits together so comfortably with the fine tannins and fine grained oak in harmony with the elegant spicy plummy fruit. Deeper chocolate richness on the palate gets a vibrant spicy lift through to the finish. Very appealing wine.
Mike Bennie - Halliday Wine Companion
This spends 20 months in French oak barrels. You wouldn't call the oak subtle, but they're mostly mopped up by the round and rich volley of ripe raspberry, cranberry, currants and choc-mint elements on hand. The seasoning of barrel maturation shows as cinnamon and clove, pleasingly strong in the wine, though a touch distracting from the fruit character, particularly in the palate, as a light astringency plays into the woody, twiggy tannin profile. Nevertheless, there's charisma here, a fuller-figured red from a cool climate, so a tussle, but with pleasure on hand.
