Complex and mineral, this has aromas of lime cordial, lemon tart, struck match, slate and fresh ginger. The palate is medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and balanced acidity, showing peaches, mangoes and pie crust. Powerful albeit fresh and linear. Released after 10 years in bottle.

The 2015 Riesling Spring Farm Block 18 is beautifully focused despite spending almost a decade in bottle. Aromas of crushed limes and dried florals are supported by subtle earthy tones. Its composure is intact with fantastic subtlety, while the chalky texture and genuine tension deliver a fine, lengthy finish. This is quite stunning and will surprise many.

A maturing riesling, evident by its years tucked away from release, but showing off softness, an open weave, honey and buttery notes with gentle lift of sea spray mineral characters, soft lime and green apple fruit detail and a touch of gingery spice. A wine very much in its more mellow phase, pleasing for its richness, character and layers of flavour, though it feels very much ready, in the prime of its life, and best drunk with gusto more or less now.

The 2015 Spring Farm Block 18 Riesling is 10 years from its harvest date today, and the wine leads with a toasty nose redolent of torched lemongrass, tatami mat, white chocolate, hints of clove and caraway. This is followed by notes of soft vanilla biscuit and almond meal/almondine. The south-facing vineyard (cool in the Southern Hemisphere, and this block was picked before Block 114) is planted at 497 meters in elevation and atop a soil structure comprised of brown loamy topsoil above a thin calcrete duricrust, underlain by pale gray-green weathered siltstone, clay and gray calcareous siltstone. The Wolta Wolta Riesling is also sourced from this block. 12.3% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
