In a word, breathtaking. Yes it's powerful, richly flavoured and full-bodied but the angel is in the detail. Black-crimson-purple same as the fruit notes within flecked with bay leaves, dark chocolate with cinnamon spice. The oak is neatly tucked in, the tannins plump and slightly grainy with exceptional length.

1971 plantings in Clarendon, which is a very beautiful part of South Australia, and indeed, the world. Violet, tobacco and earth, black fruits and a little pepper. Full bodied, fleshy and flavoursome, with a juicy core of black and blue fruit, a wonderful chompy set of tannin, balanced acidity, and a succulent and savoury finish of considerable length. Here’s a wine! Took me about one minute to form the opinion that it’s an absolute beauty. That tannin on the finish, too. Yes.

Huon Hooke - The Real Review

Very deep, bright red/purple colour, the bouquet a beautifully balanced mixture of red and darker berries, spices and pepper, plus some earthy, mineral notes. It's medium to full-bodied and smoothly-textured, not tannic or alcohol-hot, but harmonious. Intensity with elegance is the key. A delicious drink, the tannins fulfilling their structural role with traces of ironstone and graphite. (1260 cases)
