Very deep, dense red/purple colour with a tar, bitter chocolate, espresso coffee and subtle pepper-spice bouquet, fruitcake and walnuts as well. The palate is chewy and thick, dense and extracted, with grippy tannins. A big, concentrated vintage. It needs food with protein.

Smoked meat, black olives and licorice give the 2013 Stonewell Shiraz a savory cast, balanced by notes of tea, blackberries and plums. Medium to full-bodied, it's firm and tannic, with at least a decade of aging potential, although it should be approachable within a couple of years.

Never a wallflower but particularly concentrated in this vintage, the driest and earliest for the Barossa. Inky purple hue with intense flavours of licorice and roasted nuts, lots of oak flavour subsuming the fruit. Powerful structure but the drying tannins know now bounds. They are the sticking point.

This is a stoic, classically styled shiraz that has big and bold aromas of blackberries and tar. Some licorice and resiny oak. The palate is big and saturated in flavors of dark plums and blackberries with a big serving of sweet oak. The finish is long with ripe fruit and tannins. Drink in the next decade.
