The 2013 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières has more fruit concentration on the nose compared to the Côte du Py with lovely red cherry, raspberry and incense aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. There is more fruit concentration than the Côte du Py, gentle grip with a sense of symmetry on the finish. This is excellent.

Bright ruby. Fragrant aromas of blackberry, cherry pit and licorice, lifted by a smoky mineral quality and a hint of white pepper. Shows very good depth and focus to the sappy dark berry and bitter cherry flavors, which become more lively with air. Focused and appealingly sweet on the gently tannic finish, which hangs on with very good tenacity and repeating berry and mineral notes.

The 2013 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières is matured in 350-liter and 228-liter barrels that are 3 or 4 years old (previously used in Meursault). It underwent a semi-carbonic maceration over 14 days and was racked in September. The oak here is nicely integrated into the fabric of the wine – raspberry coulis mingling with vanilla and dark plum aromas that gather pace in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a candied entry, touches of orange sorbet infusing that red cherry fruit, and a sweet, well-defined finish.
