This 2017 Mystery Barossa Single-Vineyard Shiraz is an absolute cracker. A show-stopper!
A super Museum-Reserve vintage from the Barossa dress-circle of Greenock out on the Western ridge. The same region that garnered impeccable scores from the legendary The Wine Advocate back in the day.
Think of it as a museum release, finally let out.
Hand-picked and destemmed, then fermented in small open fermenters with hand-plunging across 14 days. Three months on skins after that, building structure and depth. Then basket pressed, which is slow, gentle, and nobody's idea of an efficient way to make wine.
Four years in Allier French oak followed. Then it was bottled, and then it waited.
It is arriving now, exactly as intended. Plum and cedar on the nose. Blackberry, spice and a savoury edge running long across the palate. Fine-grained tannins holding the whole thing in shape. Drinking beautifully today, with room until 2033.
