Dave Brookes - Halliday Wine Companion

Pale with a flash of green and bright aromas of fresh lime juice, grapefruit and green apple fruits, hints of Christmas lily, makrut lime, lemongrass, white flowers and green apple sorbet. Keenly focused with a slide of grapefruit pith and lemon zest joining in on the palate. The finish is bone dry, crisply refreshing and travels a precise line.

Looking for a lively and zesty wine to go with spicy flavours? This dry Riesling from Australia's Eden Valley would work a treat. It's on the pricey side, but this is a cut above many supermarket offerings, with noticeably more weight and concentration, without at all feeling heavy. Imagine a violin playing a pure, high-pitched note – that's what this wine feels, taut and linear with zesty acidity, but with a depth of lime and lemon citrus, juicy peach and nectarine fruit, and a firm finish. Assured winemaking, and will get even better with time in the cellar. Mix six price: £22
