Kym Teusner is pretty flippin' good at composing a delicious red blend. Here it's 50/30/20% mataro/shiraz/grenache. Deep magenta/crimson with wonderfully pure back and dark berry fruits and tones of blueberry pie, exotic spice, floral facets, a light meaty mist and earthy nuance. Great fruit density and flow here with toothsome tannins and a black-fruited swell on the back-end.

I like the tannin in this wine. I like the flow of fruit flavour, and the inherent softness, but it’s the tannin that adds a grain to it, a bit of tethering, which almost seems to give the wine’s more savoury notes something to hold onto, and to therefore amplify their effect. The net effect is a raspberried/blueberried with smoked cedarwood notes laced throughout and ample woodsy spice notes too. There’s a (pleasingly) meaty aspect here too, and maybe a flash of orange rind. There’s a lot going on within a smooth, soft package.

Complex and deeply brooding aromas of blood plums, dark cherries, citrus peel, bitter chocolate and brambleberries. The palate is full-bodied with fine tannins and a generous mouthfeel, leading to a fruit-driven finish. It’s sitting at the edge of oxidation.
