Tasting Notes

Pale straw. The nose leads with nashi pear, grapefruit and white peach, lifted by lemon zest and a salty, oyster-shell edge. The palate is medium-bodied and fruit-driven, with citrus and pear up front. There's a creamy slip of texture, with a touch of nougat and woodsy spice. Racy acidity keeps it fresh through a long, crisp, dry finish.

Product Highlights

This is Margaret River Chardonnay with serious pedigree behind it.

When Head Wine Buyer Mark Pollard first tasted it, he immediately picked the hand of one of the region’s leading producers. And for good reason. The winery holds a permanent 5-Red-Star Halliday rating, its Chief Winemaker has been named Winemaker of the Year, and the trophy cabinet is packed with more than 120 Trophies and 330 Gold Medals, including the coveted Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy.

Made from classic Gingin clone fruit, the wine is whole-bunch pressed, wild-fermented in French oak and matured on yeast lees. The result is everything you want from top-flight Margaret River Chardonnay - white peach, nectarine, a touch of struck match and gunflint, with seamless oak and plenty of power and presence.

Mark has been buying wine for more than 25 years, and his rule is pretty simple: if the wine is amazing, he buys it. This one passed that test very quickly.
