Tasting Notes

Pale straw in colour, with fragrant aromas of rose petal and jasmine. The palate showcases vibrant tropical fruit, particularly guava, layered with zesty lemon and lively citrus characters. A fine backbone of natural acidity provides precision and freshness, leading to a long, steely finish with elegant minerality. A generous yet beautifully linear Eden Valley Riesling with excellent cellaring potential.

Product Highlights

Every year this estate tastes its four Riesling blocks and puts only the best one into this bottle. That’s reserve in the literal sense. 2023 gave Eden Valley a long, cool harvest. For Riesling that’s a gift: ripe flavour, with the acidity left firmly in place. The estate is a family-owned vineyard in the Eden Valley high country. It’s a certified member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia. A respected contract winemaker turns the chosen parcel into wine. David Sly scored it 96 points at Decanter. He found bright lemon over lime, a flash of granite and a strong acid spine. James Suckling called it crisp, textural and vertical. Expect lime, lemon and green apple, with jasmine, orange blossom and crushed stone. The palate is more generous than most reserve styles, then pulls in tight and dry. Sly flagged that generosity as a pleasant surprise. The critics split a little on timing. Angus Hughson sees an earlier-drinking style, while that acid spine says it has legs. We’d drink half the six now and see how the rest look in 2030.
