Product Highlights

Découverte means discovery, and that's exactly the job of this wine. It's Stéphane Aladame's way into Montagny Premier Cru, made to open up quickly and drink well young. Montagny has an unusual problem: almost too many Premier Crus. Well over 200 of its roughly 300 planted hectares carry the title. Aladame, refreshingly, admits not every site has earned it. So he chooses carefully. This cuvée draws on the younger vines in his Premier Cru holdings. Historically they've come from Les Maroques and Les Gouresses, on limestone-rich soils. He has described Découverte as a blend that opens up fast, so it's made for freshness rather than long ageing. He also describes Montagny's style as closer to Chablis than the Côte d'Or, thanks to the shallow limestone underfoot. He started the domaine in 1992, aged 18, with a plot of just 28 ares. Today he farms eight Premier Cru parcels, organically and by hand. Looking for honest white Burgundy that doesn't demand a cellar or a second mortgage? This is the place to begin.
