This has established itself right in the top tier of Margaret River Chardonnay since it was introduced a few years ago. It was hand-picked and then wild yeast fermented before spending about 10 months in French oak. There is the immense and intense power that is Wilyabrup Chardonnay, a mix of quince paste, citrus, and grapefruit on the nose with just a slightly edgy cut lime to balance. The palate drives with a deep lingering intensity, with the slightly savoury fruit supported by a balancing chalky acidity. It's a first-rate wine from a season that did produce some excellent Chardonnays.

While this is so textural and fulsome, it comes etched with electrifying acidity and definition. Expect grapefruit and lemon, lemon balm and white stone fruit, with dabs of spice, light creamy lees, and the acidity racing through ensuring this is vibrant, lively and utterly compelling. It finishes long and convincingly.

Gary Walsh - The Wine Front

The Karridale is the funkier more sulphide driven wine in 2024, and this Wilyabrup has cleaner lines, so to speak. Both very good, more a matter of personal taste (I prefer this one). White peach, pear, lemon oil, almond, a little spice and cedar. It’s a tight and tangy wine, grapefruit and green pear, a little bit juicy, light powdery grip to texture, green olive and sour yoghourt, with plenty of zip on a finish of excellent length. Very nice. I’d give it a year or two to settle and build.

The 2024 Chardonnay Cornerstone Wilyabrup Vineyard is open knit and ready for business, showing a core of ripe melon and papaya with a toasty oak frame. There are lashings of flavor, while firm acidity takes the edge off the finish.
