No frills winemaking simply because none was needed, the great vineyard and significant vine age give the wine an extra volume of citrus and Granny Smith apple flavour. The acidity is especially good for the vintage. A classic.

‘Florita’ is Spanish for ‘little flower’, which is how I like to think of Sam Barry. Still a little unresolved in the aromatics, with something like a wallpaper paste character in the background, but you can see the potential. Lime and fresh lemon, fennel, spice and dried herb/flower mix. Really picks up when it hits the mouth, pebbles and juicy lemon acidity, intense flavour with a subtle quinine bite, and a long textured finish. Not a great Florita, but a very good one.

Tasted at the Armagh Hut with Sam and Tom Barry, the 2019 The Florita Riesling leads with layers of every kind of apple on the nose—red, green and Golden Delicious apples in profusion. This is a big step toward development from the 2020, and certainly the 2022! There is honeysuckle and toast through the finish. This is fresher than the 2020 in some ways but related by their warm, dry seasons.
