Sub-regional expression is definitely a feature of this stunning Red Hill Chardonnay. The higher, cooler Red Hill area promotes a more pronounced structure and firmness which is accentuated more in a cool year like ’24. Acidity is a key factor in this wine, something that will see it age particularly well. Then there is the quality of the fruit and an intriguing layer of savouriness that adds up to one mighty exciting wine. A touch of almond skin savouriness is hinted at in a bouquet of stone fruits, honeydew melon, pear, citrus, grapefruit pith., lime peel and lemon balm. It arrives with an effortless ease, elegant and beautifully focused with a clean textural flow studded in lemon peel tartness. Irresistible.

It’s so good. Savoury, tangy and alive with a light tannic pull on the finish. In between, citrus, white peach and lots of warming spices with mouth-watering acidity. There’s a lot going on with this terrific wine, great now and will garner more complexity in time.

Light to mid straw-yellow with an intense mineral/struck flint aroma, smoky mineral nuances adding to the deliciously refined pear/apple/nectarine fruit. There is a lot of flinty reduction but the wine is superbly put together and satisfying. Long, long carry.

Pale lemon in colour. There are notes of matchsticks and lemon zest on the nose. Hazelnuts, hints of stone fruit and a minerally backing. The wine has good focus and is linear in style. The balance and intensity sails through the full length of this wine. Fine acidity is intertwined with the rich fruit notes. Great drinking over the next three to five years.

The old Collina Rossa. A little bit more flavour here than the 2024 Balnarring, though they are both quite understated wines this vintage. White peach but mainly citrus, almond, oatmeal and spice. Medium-bodied, tangy and grapefruity, a subtle gloss to texture, though manly tight and flinty with a lemon and grapefruit finish of good length, some lemon peel in the aftertaste. Good wine. Needs some time to settle in though.

Gosh, this is still super-tight and full of tension, with acidity dealing the cards. That’s OK. Underneath, lemon, barely ripe white nectarine, some nougatine with a dab of oak spice. Very refreshing and lively, moreish and savoury even. Great on its own or with food.
There’s a brilliant entry to the 2021 Red Hill Chardonnay that is full of personality. It displays a rich core of peach melba and floral tones against a vanillin oak background. Subtle flinty flavours shine through against a backdrop of complex citrus underpinned by vibrant acidity.
