Intense aromas of white florals, sage and thyme layered over poached pear and nougat, while the palate features white peach, marzipan and lemon pith anchored by crisp apple and minerally citrus drive.

Fresh and bright, the elegantly lifted bouquet shows apricot, fig, lemon zest, and garden herb aromas, followed by a juicy palate that's lively and lingering. It's finely expressed with excellent vibrancy, offering delightful drinking.

Arneis is a variety originating from Piedmont in north-west Italy, and like many Italian varieties, is proving its ability to thrive in some of Australia’s cooler wine regions; such as this delight from Orange in NSW. Initially it’s delicate – the aromas conjure summer blossoms, citrus pith and Nashi pear. After the subtle aromas, the first sip reveals a surprising concentration, with vibrant white peaches, lemongrass, a spritz of pink grapefruit and river rock minerality. Fermentation was split between stainless steel and some older oak barrels, the latter adds texture whilst not overwhelming the light, fresh style. Arneis pairs really well with a wide variety of foods. My pick was a grilled squid and chilli pasta abundantly dressed with lemon juice and fruity olive oil.

Grapefruit zest, white nectarine and kiwi. A touch of almond skin and lemonade. A pumice stone minerality and some salty, briny notes, too. Bone dry and fresh with a touch of saké leesy texture.

2024Mystery Orange Arneis
"This is a nice classy dry arneis with a pleasant light "fruit" character. A food wine rather than a sip just by itself."

Good different
"Always special to sample a “new” (to me!) varietal. This is a lovely wine pitched somewhere between Gris and Chardonnay. Lot’s of care in the making, I suspect. And it has paid off!"
