This is impeccably composed and exquisitely expressed, showing apricot, rockmelon, vanillin oak, and savoury pastry nuances on the nose. The concentrated palate is powerful and refined, with outstanding depth and persistence. Superbly framed by creamy texture and perfectly pitched acidity, finishing wonderfully long and captivating.

Since this line was introduced a few years ago, it has impressed, and this release is among the best so far. Picked early enough to avoid the heat of the 2024 vintage, it has a lovely vibrant, pristine character while retaining plenty of flavour intensity. Aromas of butterscotch, quince and crème brûlée lead to a deep, penetrating palate with a complex weave of flavours that build momentum through to a very long finish. A terrific wine.

A step up here, to a superb Margaret River Chardy which can sit among the regional stars. More than half of the grapes are sourced from the Wylco Vineyard, with the rest being estate fruit. Whole bunch pressing to barrel, natural fermentation and then nine months on lees. 10% of the wine undertakes malolactic fermentation. 715 dozen made. This is a shining deep yellow colour. There is quality oak in evidence, well along in the process of integration and looking good. Melon, nectarine, stone fruits, lemongrass and ginger notes are all found on the nose, but it is that gorgeous stone fruit and ginger which explodes on the palate. There is bright citrusy acidity, a supple texture and serious intensity here, intensity which does not waver for a moment on a long finish. Six to ten years of pleasure ahead of it.

The 2024 Chardonnay Paladin Hill offers a more elegant expression, with streamlined aromas of melon and acacia, a floral lift and spicy oak. The palate is mid weight and creamy textured, showing appealing exotic tropical fruit flavors lifted by nutty oak complexity. Well balanced with crisp acidity, it delivers a long, fine finish.
