2024 Mystery Barossa Valley Shiraz Grenache Deal No. 6283

This special 2024 bottling brings together old-vine Shiraz and Grenache from some of the Barossa’s most respected subregions. Originally planned for an export release, the wine has now found its way to Australian customers, offering a rare chance to secure a limited parcel from a standout vintage.

After several cooler, wetter La Niña-influenced years, the 2024 season brought a return to drier, more classic Barossa conditions. Good moisture carried through the soils from the previous year, supporting healthy vines and balanced crops. Harvest was largely smooth and well-paced, with only a short burst of heat in March, allowing the fruit to ripen evenly while holding freshness and shape.

The blend is led by Shiraz from old vineyards in Krondorf and Eden Valley, bringing depth, dark fruit and structure. Grenache from a century-old Tanunda vineyard, supported by old-vine fruit from Moppa, adds perfume, red-fruited lift and savoury detail.

Each parcel was handled separately in small stainless steel fermenters to preserve its individual character. Some Shiraz parcels were fermented with submerged caps and received twice-daily pump overs, building colour, texture and flavour. A portion of the Grenache was fermented with whole bunches, adding spice, savoury complexity and fine aromatic detail.

Following fermentation, the component wines spent 15 months in French oak, including a small portion in new fine-grain hogsheads, with the remainder matured in seasoned hogsheads and puncheons. The result is a wine built for immediate enjoyment, yet with the depth, balance and structure to reward careful cellaring for a decade or more.
