Tasting Notes

It’s bright and lively with energy bursting through it. Has a floral note with a subtle blackcurrant leafiness. It’s elegantly structured and medium-weight but with tremendous power. Has a chalky dusty character. The amphora appears responsible for promoting the essential glowing characters of the fruit.

Product Highlights

From one of Great Southern’s oldest Cabernet sites, planted back in 1972, comes a wine that balances poise with power. Amphora and barrique fermentation add nuance and finesse, while delicate florals and a savoury graphite edge frame the fruit. It’s no wonder Ray Jordan awarded it 98pts, calling it “as good as anything Nelson has made.” This is a serious wine, crafted with detail and built to reward both immediate enjoyment and long-term cellaring.

such a thing as too rich?

"Pseudo-dragon boat a la Beychevelle. Hmpphh. Still, bought this at an amazing TWC sale price given that it then popped back to $95 and was very impressed. At first, I compared it to the new-age Bordeaux that are all power and pure fruit. This was almost crystalline yet a bit too fruit-sweet for that label. Later as I repeatedly re-bottled smaller and smaller residuals I decided the lack of structure set it apart from BDX. Still delicious and if I paid that amount for a Bordeaux I would be satisfied. Deserves the 98 point scores."

I sent it last week.

"I sent it last week. It was an excellent, smooth, elegant, flavoursome , medium bodied wine, Worthy of special occassions unless one can afford it regularly."
