I wish they could all be California Chardonnay. We’ve got a couple of all-time customer favourites from the US here at The Wine Collective – Cloud Break and Fat Bastard. Both are rich, opulent, and proudly old-school, towing that buttery line. They’re delicious, but we’d hate for you to think that’s all California has to offer.

That’s why we’re ecstatic to have discovered Folie à Deux and winemaker Maria Cortez’s phenomenal Russian River Chardonnay.

With its impossibly long growing season and cooling fog, the Russian River Valley gives Cortez the perfect canvas. 

The result? A Chardonnay with beautifully etched acidity and a complex mix of stone, tropical, and orchard fruits, dusted with sweet vanilla spice. Oh yeah – this is one serious Chardonnay.

Like California itself, it’s complex and full of personality. There’s so much going on it’s hard to know where to start: lemon tart, honeyed apples, and crisp juiciness. Then nashi pear, oregano, pineapple, caramel, and nutmeg.

Now, our Yankee friends aren’t shy about price – this Chardonnay usually sits in the $55+ category. But after a quick sightseeing trip to San Francisco and a few quiet handshake deals, we managed to secure an exclusive parcel at a genre-defining price.
