Tasting Notes

Pale straw with cream/pearl hue. An array of complex white florals leads this wine into aromas of scratched citrus, grilled lime and white peach. Beneath the purest of fruit, the wine holds underlying cashew paste, nori and cardamom notes that merge with fennel seed, baked pastry and lemon rind. The palate has brilliant power and tension that is balanced by the sleekest core of fruit, where the wines pedigree rings true. Incredibly long and saline this wine has an effortless journey across the palate. Flavours of white stone fruit, lemon curd and bitter lime are captured by cheese cloth like textures that evolved from whole bunch pressing and an extended time on lees. Optimum drinking within three to ten years.

Product Highlights

And here we go – Julian Langworthy’s Deep Woods Reserve range has landed.

These wines are among the most coveted releases of the year, typically selling out in minutes to savvy collectors who recognise world-class quality.

World-class? Absolutely. And the 2023 vintage? The dux of that class.

Is this the best vintage yet? Ray Jordan, the preeminent authority on all things Western Australian wine, certainly thinks so. And he’s not alone – the cascade of medals, trophies, and glowing reviews agrees. Twelve major awards, to be precise: gold medals, trophies, "best ever" accolades, and a dazzling 98 points. The reason? 2023 is the year for Margaret River. A Goldilocks vintage, crafted in Deep Woods’ signature contemporary style – flinty, with notes of crushed seashells, whipped lemon curd, and an abundance of stone fruit. Sophisticated and refined, it’s every bit worthy of the ‘Reserve’ label.

The Deep Woods story starts with Julian Langworthy. With a James Halliday Winemaker of the Year title and a Jimmy Watson Trophy under his belt, his leadership sets the foundation for greatness.

Add to that the forty-year-old estate vineyards and what is arguably Western Australia’s most exacting reserve wine program – featuring hand-picked parcels of fruit and only the finest French oak – and every vintage of Deep Woods Reserve is practically guaranteed to shine.

As always, allocations are extremely limited, with just a small quantity of each wine making it beyond the cellar door and members’ program. Don’t miss the chance to experience one of Australia’s finest premium wines.
