ulithorne
"Very smooth, good light and flowery taste. not a huge amount of length"
Ulithorne is back. For years, the wines of this McLaren cult winery were like an enigma. A name you heard in passing, with hero winemaker (and winner of the 2008 Bushing Queen title for Best McLaren Winemaker) Rose Kentish carrying a cult-like reputation for McLaren Vale magnificence.
But all that changed. In 2016, Kentish sold the 1950s-planted vineyard and the brand, with emergent South Australian powerhouse C.W. Wines cleaning up the spoils.
We all wondered what would happen. Would the emphatically luscious wines that made the Ulithorne name come back, or would it all fade away?
But we shouldn't have worried. When wines like this Ulithorne Antiqua Shiraz land, you realise everything will be ok.
Proudly stuffed with the black and red fruit of big-boned McLaren Vale Shiraz and the intensity that only comes from old vines, this wonderfully generous red is everything you'd want in a Vale red.
