Such an elegantly presented McLaren Vale shiraz pumping out plenty of power and intensity as it drives through a deeply connected palate. Aromas of dark plum and blackberry with a lift of spices, dried herbs and a sprinkle of black pepper. It’s juicy and succulent with nice fruit cake and subtle roasted coffee grind characters. Vibrant and lively with an appealing mouth feel. Cellar: 10 years

An early look at Leconfield’s latest foray in McLaren Vale, this time with Shiraz, was exciting. An inky black/purple hue here, the nose offers notes of spices and well-handled oak, with cassis, plums, mocha, dark chocolate, vanilla and nutmeg. There is also the remnants of a richly flavoured fruit cake. The wine is dense but balanced, well focused and with a seductive texture and silky tannins. This is really good and will drink beautifully for at least a decade
