Product Highlights
From legendary Ex Chief Winemaker & founder at Torbreck, comes another jaw-dropping Barossa Shiraz. A global cult figure and one of Australia’s most decorated producers, The mystery winemaker is doing what he does best - sourcing exceptional old-vine fruit, letting it speak, and crafting powerful, soulful wines that reflect their place. We can’t name this wine, but we can tell you it’s one of the finest Barossa Shiraz deals we’ve ever secured.
This release draws on Marananga fruit from vines over 40 years old, grown from cuttings taken from the original Torbreck regular Kraehe vineyard - one of the Barossa's most exalted and highly prized blocks. That’s where the character lives. The 2022 vintage has pushed things even further than its acclaimed predecessor, delivering even more polish, presence, and complexity. The critics agree, awarding it outstanding scores: Tony Love 98 points, Ray Jordan 95 points, and Ken Gargett 96 points.
In the glass, this is classic BIG Barossa. Rich, layered, and unapologetically confident. Expect waves of plush plum, sweet blackberry, damson fruit and dark cherry, backed by choc-orange, liquorice, cedar, wild herbs, black pepper, and clove, with subtle notes of olive tapenade and smoked meat. Aged for 18 months in seasoned barrels, the wine shows superb balance and finesse without losing its power. It’s full-bodied and commanding, yet silky, elegant, and beautifully composed, carrying effortless momentum across the palate.
There’s a reason huge scores follow him everywhere he goes. In the early ’90s, he founded Torbreck and took it to international fame, earning Robert Parker’s recognition as one of the World’s Top 100 Wine Estates along with multiple perfect scores. Since then, he has continued to produce elite Shiraz from Barossa’s greatest sites, amassing more 99s and 100s than most winemakers will ever see. This wine is part of that legacy.
You can enjoy this now with a short decant of 30 to 60 minutes in a large Bordeaux glass, or cellar it with confidence. It will cruise beautifully for the next decade and beyond. Normally around $100 a bottle, this flagship Barossa Shiraz is yours here for a fraction of the price. A standout 2022 vintage, up to 98-point praise, and serious pedigree - all completely under wraps. Big wine. Serious credentials. Ridiculous value.
