A fine example of the poise and beauty that Margaret River brings to the Cabernet grape. It’s a slow reveal, quite tantalising, and so artfully laid out before the drinker with so much left for a later date. Luminosa is always built with a big future in mind. However, the brightness of the wine, its youthful clarity, does not preclude enjoyment right now. Dark berries, star anise, cassis and woodsy spice with a gentle, slowly winding feature of leafiness that never exceeds its role, but serves as a reminder that this is, after all, a classic Cabernet. Tannins are fine, bringing structure and the kind of support needed for its long journey ahead. Pitch perfect Cabernet.

Cassandra Charlick - Decanter

Tightly coiled nose with good-quality oak in line with fruit. Purple berries and crushed granite lift with sea salt and dried herbs. Crushed nori with dried rose petals and tightly bundled black fruit, still showing plenty of freshness. A long, humming line of energy dances between red and black fruits. Sundried tomato, Dutch liquorice and caraway spice with polished obsidian. Chalky yet firm tannins, with crystalline fruit, levitating acidity and a briny finish. 97% Cabernet Sauvignon with 3% Malbec from the Boodjidup Valley, aged nine months in French oak barriques, 37% new.

No denying this is a good wine, but it is a few years away from being a very good wine – it’s a bit brash at the moment. However, there’s lovely fruit, all mulberries and blackberries, a whole kitchen cabinet worth of spices with cedary oak, camphor and a hint of eucalypt. Ripe flavours and an intensity across the fuller-bodied palate where the textural tannins and acidity come into play. Open this in its youth, then match it to appropriate food, but best to cellar it and be richly rewarded.

Deep dark red-purple colour; intense blackberry fruit well harmonised with oak, subtly played, the palate intense and taut, with a nicely balanced tannin grip. It's bright and bolod, with a touch of youthful astringency: a very good cabernet that will richly reward a little cellaring.

Christina Pickard - Wine Enthusiast

Plump dark berry, graphite and dried herbal aromas float gently from the glass. The chiseled power of the variety is there but it's reined in, focused with excellent acidity and sculpted, savory spiced tannins. The fruit is concentrated and still tightly wound, but this shows heaps of promise for the future. Drink now with decanter and protein at hand, until 2039, at least.
