Tasting Notes

The nose opens with blueberries, blackberries and ripe plum, layered with hints of cinnamon, cracked pepper. On the palate it’s soft, plush and nicely rounded, with dark berry fruit rolling into notes of chocolate, gentle spice and a little graphite. Fine tannins and bright acidity keep everything balanced. On the nose, notes of blackberry, cassis and plum entice the senses, accompanied by subtle hints of vanilla.

Product Highlights

Sometimes Bordeaux takes itself a little too seriously. This isn’t one of those wines.

The 2022 BDX Bordeaux Claret is a modern, fruit-forward take on Right Bank Bordeaux - made to be opened, poured generously and enjoyed without fuss.

It comes from Les Grands Chais de France, the largest privately owned wine group in the country. Their reach stretches across more than 3,000 hectares of vineyards throughout France, and they’ve built a reputation for producing regional wines that consistently overdeliver for the price. (Our #1 selling French sparkling of all time - Marcel Martin Crémant de Loire - also comes from their stable.)

But they also happen to own some serious Bordeaux real estate. Including Clos Beauregard in Pomerol and Château Cantin, a Grand Cru estate in Saint-Émilion. Fruit from these Right Bank vineyards helps shape the style of this wine.

And the style here is all about approachability.

It’s 100% Merlot - the grape that defines many of Bordeaux’s most famous Right Bank wines - and it’s aged in stainless steel to keep the fruit plush, bright and front and centre.

The result is a claret that feels generous and easygoing. Expect ripe plum, blackberry and soft spice, with smooth tannins and plenty of juicy fruit.

If you enjoy the richer, fruit-driven reds of Barossa or McLaren Vale, this Bordeaux will feel right at home in your glass.

It’s the bottle you open with a homemade meal, pour generously, and never feel the need to fuss over.

Classic Bordeaux pedigree.
Just with a more relaxed attitude.

BDZ Bordeaux

"Not quite as good as I expected despite the region of origin. Many Aussie wines at similar value are better."

Harry B. (3/5)

Not sure what to think

"Certainly good, but like many merlots just didn't quite excite me. Nice pairing with lamb chops."

Richard R. (3/5)

Big Score

"Yep, I took a gamble, but the 2022 vintage was apparently a cracker … and this BDX definitely is … big score … including the very arty label … get some if it’s still available!"

Patrick D. (5/5)

Decent drop start the price

"Decedant and very affordable"
