It was a tip-off from David Bicknell of Oakridge fame nearly 10 years ago that led us down the path to discovering this then-little-known Yarra winery. When the man who knows Aussie wines - especially Yarra Valley Chardonnay - like the back of his hand tells us a white is well-made, long and balanced, we take notice.

And beyond that, we take stock. A sommelier favourite found on Melbourne’s best wine lists, this Single Vineyard Chardonnay is made with real care and precision.

The cult winery behind it has treated fruit from the Dixon’s Creek subregion with the respect it deserves - whole bunch pressed, fermented in both stainless steel and old French oak. You’ll taste grapefruit and bright apple purity, despite the extended lees contact.

Balance, indeed. So skip the markup at your favourite Melbourne restaurant, make yourself a seafood paella, and crack open a bottle of this gem. Bliss.
