Exquisite. This is what modern Barossa Shiraz is all about. It brings the power and concentrated opulence firmly into the frame, but then it gently caresses and controls it in a more refined presentation. These are words you might not have read about old-time Barossa Shiraz. Deep and concentrated power with rich layered dark fruit, perfectly balanced with fine-grained oak and silky fine tannins. It’s awash with dark fruits cascading down through to a long finish.

Vine age is an impressive 75 yrs and from the Rowland Flat area. Open fermented 14-16 days with a good portion of juice discarded to promote concentration of flavour. Low yielding and most of the vineyard dry drown. Matured in new and seasoned French oak for 14-16 months. Crafted by Sam Kurtz who has been making these wines for 35 years. Macerated cherries, pomegranate seeds and the warmth of brown spices and tea leaves. This is underpinned by cocoa nibs and fresh poured espresso. Throughout the drinking experience you'll discover some wild red berries, a hint of raspberry compote and lingonberry. This is all wrapped by svelte tannins and a long acid line, which remain the driving force steering flavours for long moments after you have stopped sipping. It's purposeful but with such fine elegant lines that makes for an overall impressive wine. This is drinking well and is truly showing its pedigree over time. Another 5 or so years still ahead of it. I’d stop waiting though and open it today with a mushroom risotto and confit duck dinner. Make everyday extraordinary.

Another special Barossa Shiraz, from old vines, low yields and a fabulous vintage. If you love big, bold Barossa reds, splash out Again, under cork and also the hefty bottle. This is near black in colour. Excellent oak integration, still melding but adding a gorgeous vanillin note to the wine. On the nose, we have chocolate, plums, graphite, black fruits, axle grease, cloves, charcuterie, blueberries and mulberries. Concentration throughout, the intensity never wavers. Sleek tannins and a supple texture, formidable stuff. Immaculate balance and impressive length, if you can leave this in the cellar for three to five years before opening one, you won’t regret it. Then enjoy for the following ten to twenty years. Cracking stuff.
