The Avignon has long been one of my favourites from the Kaesler portfolio. Here its a blend of 48/27/25% grenache/shiraz/mourvédre from the cracking 2021 vintage. It's spicy, detailed and a joy to drink with pure, plummy and red-berried fruits cut with ginger spice, cola, earth, purple flowers and roasting meats. There is a wonderful sense of space and tension, with a bright line and savoury palate shape, finishing chalky with a plume of spice, raspberry and red plum.

This unashamedly ripe but balanced 2021 Avignon is a blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre, offering up plush and fleshy aromas of damson plum, dark chocolate and earthy spices. A freight train of dark fruit flavors follows, rich and mouth-filling with sandy tannins providing a good grip through to a fleshy finish. This is old-school done well.
