Very perfumed and seductive, with aromas of cassis, blackberries, menthol, cedar and cigar box. The palate is juicy but restrained, the fruit is delineated and elegantly defined without being overbearing. Fresh and juicy, it finishes long and focused. A blend of cabernet sauvignon and malbec.

The 2021 Rock of Solitude Cabernet Malbec leads with a minty nose, backed by dark chocolate and mulberry in profusion. The dark chocolate/mint duo are two characters I find often in combination with each other in Cabernets from the Geographe region, here specifically, the beautiful Ferguson Valley. In the mouth, the wine is lightly framed, lean and a little dilute; it has less concentration and intensity than I was expecting, although I would assume that the vintage had a lot to do with that. While 2021 was not overly cold, it was quite wet, and that presented many challenges for viticulturists, particularly toward the end of the season with later-ripening red varieties. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
