Tasting Notes

Deep intense reds and violets. Bold Cabernet notes here, with black fruits, cigar box characters, chocolate, cassis and more – a terrific nose. The palate is supple with the tannins on the finish very fine. Juicy, youthful flavours, but there is some serious intensity here right through to a long and impressive finish. Delicious now, but no issue in cellaring it over the next four to five years, even longer.

Product Highlights

The Deep Woods story is all about Julian Langworthy. If you’re a regular Wine Collective member you would have heard us talk a lot about him - he’s one of our absolute favourite winemakers.

When you have this James Halliday Winemaker of the Year and Jimmy Watson winner running the show, then you've already got a head start - he is indisputably one of the top winemakers in the country and with Deep Woods he is at the very top of his game.

They show several ranges of wines, from Estate to Reserve Grand Selection, but the Redlands series is where you can find some real value for money.

Reviews

Deep Woods does truth in advertising

"The label promises "fruit richness" and "eminent drinkability" and that's all quite accurate. From an initial blackcurrant character ("ribena" said my guest, who quite liked that cordial many years ago) aeration only improved the bottle. Not super complex, but well suited to a spinach, cheese, and chilli pizza, or extremely drinkable on its own."

Good Value Red

"This is already drinking well. A bit lighter than the 2020 Estate Cabernet, but will drink well for the next decade. At the special price of $16 - really good value."

Michael H. (4/5)

Pleasing on the palate

"Very easy drinking, smooth with delicate fruit, punches well above it’s weight"
