The Clos du Lican 2020, crafted by the renowned Chilean winery Casa Lapostolle, is a true testament to the quality of Chilean wines. This vintage, produced in 2020, showcases the best of the region's terroir and winemaking techniques. Upon pouring, the wine exudes a deep ruby color, hinting at its bold character. The nose is greeted with rich aromas of ripe black cherries, plums, and dark chocolate, intertwined with subtle hints of spices and smoky oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and velvety, with a perfect balance of tannins and acidity. Flavors of blackberry, blackcurrant, and vanilla dance on the tongue, leading to a long, elegant finish. This wine is a true delight to the senses and a must-try for any wine lover. Enjoy it with a hearty beef dish or a selection of aged cheeses.
Winemakers Notes
Today, we are thrilled to release the second vintage which is the 2020 Clos du Lican.
Clos du Lican, a hidden gem in the Apalta Valley
Clos du Lican is Domaines Bournet-Lapostolle’s hidden gem.
It reflects Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet's passion, hard work, long-term vision and knowledge transmission.
After having succeeded in revealing the
Grand Cru
that was lying in the Apalta Valley, in 2004, the couple found another magical place only 5km away from Clos Apalta's vineyard. The land was initially covered with enormous granite stones and had never seen a single vine root there. However, the place had a very special energy that in a way, was almost sacred. It convinced Alexandra and Cyril to undergo an extraordinary project to reshape the land and plant vines to produce another fine wine that is as unique as Clos Apalta. To illustrate the immense scope of this venture, when Alexandra's father discovered the place he said that it would take a miracle to pull the project off.
The couple started its new adventure. As Cathedral builders would have done a thousand years ago, they lifted the rocks and moved them in order to plant over 15 hectares of vines, mainly made of Syrah. The philosophy is the same here as it is at Clos Apalta: to use organic and biodynamic practices to protect the biodiversity and preserve the purity of the fruit.
Every great achievement is born of a long-term vision. In 2013, Charles de Bournet, 7th generation, took over from his parents and has continued to work on this extraordinary project ever since. The dream came true in 2022, when he launched the first vintage of Clos du Lican. The 2019 Clos du Lican is an elegant, complex wine with intense fruit and silky tannins.
"A new and exciting single-vineyard 100% Syrah" 99pts by James Suckling.
