The 2018 La Pointe needs some coaxing from the glass, eventually offering scents of blackberry, truffle oil, hints of mint and violet. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe black fruit mixed with cedar and graphite, nicely focused with a gentle grip on the finish. I appreciate the spiciness that lingers on the aftertaste and it should evolve into a fine Pomerol.

Cassis and cherry preserve flavors are flanked by apple wood and anise notes, with a light sanguine hint on the finish.

This is rather lovely, if a little sweet, and a little lighter than the 2016 at this property with floral notes and some extremely juicy ripe red fruits. There is no doubt that this estate has improved unquestionably over the past decade and here delivers another enjoyably juicy La Pointe, the concentration and balance just perhaps a little more impressive in the 2016 vintage. 25% of the vineyard has now been replanted at 8,500 vines per hectare, a significantly higher density than the previous 6,200v/ha. Composed of 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 La Pointe has a deep garnet-purple color and quite a cedary nose to begin over a core of warm black cherries, blackberry pie and spice cake plus nuances of mossy bark, pencil shavings and smoked meats. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm, chewy texture and soft freshness enveloping the muscular, savory layers, finishing a little drying.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider

With cherry blossoms and a touch of oak in the nose, the wine is medium bodied, forward and fresh. Most likely enjoyable on release, this wine is made from blending 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Franc.

Antonio Galloni MW - Vinous

The 2018 La Pointe is an attractive, open-knit Pomerol that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Although not especially complex, the 2018 possesses lovely upfront fruit to match its open-knit, easygoing personality. Ripe cherry, red plum, leather and sweet spice add to the wine's immediacy. Tasted three times.
