The unusual growing season boded well for this vintage of Margaret. Oriental white lilies, lemon lime cordial and margarita vibes. Golden kiwi, green apple juice and aloe. Blind baked pastry, raw pine nut and swiss meringue. A labne like creaminess with dill, honeysuckle and thrilling acidity. It ascends in flavour with fruit vibrancy its’ stand out feature. Superbly fresh and thirst quenching. A triumph of Semillon. Drink now and you’ll be rewarded for your patience if you cellar a few. A wonder with creamy watercress soup or a herby sauced salmon fillet.

A variety generally most closely associated with the Hunter Valley, yet the Barossa consistently produces exceptional, albeit slightly different Semillons. This is outstanding. Has all of the lemon blossom and waxy honey characters you expect from a Semillon going through its transition to adulthood. But it is still so fresh and vibrant with such a high energy palate. A clean and slightly steely finish completes an excellent wine.

Named after Peter Lehmann’s wife and business partner, Margaret, and released with 5 year’s bottle age. Aromas of buttered toast, honey, candied lemon peel, citrus preserves and cracked wheat sit within a restrained aromatic profile with great complexity and poise. The palate is incredibly gratifying and inviting, with its melding of honeysuckle, preserved lemon, pastry dough and bitter citrus oil all wrapped up in a creamy, pillowy texture. Waves of leesy notes meld with bitter citrus through a long finish. This is an excellent Semillon, with complexity, balance and downright deliciousness.

This is a funky semillon. If it walked into a bar it would probably be asked “why the long face”; there’s an earthy, horsey aspect to the mid palate, which may in itself sound concerning but these characters come wrapped in butter, lanolin and lemon, and it feels juicy throughout, and it feels succulent through the finish. It drinks well; I’d go a second glass.
