A richer expression with good depth of color. Ripe, crushed mulberries, blackberries, mussels and a hint of dark earth, white pepper and stems. Pretty full-bodied and structured with ductile fruit and some nicely chewy tannins. Long and tight finish.

The bottled version of the 2017 La Fleur de Vivaltus shows the ripeness of the warm, dry and early 2017 vintage, but the long élevage has made it good and polished its edges. It seems to be evolving faster and be a vintage for the short term.

I tasted a tentative blend for the possible 2017 Petit Vivaltus, and it is certainly riper, hitting 14.4% alcohol. Even though at this early stage, I can see the parallel between the two wines in the two vintages. 2017 is not as refined as 2016; there is more ripeness in 2017, and the quality of the tannins is not the same. There is still has one more year of élevage before it will be bottled. It's still rough and not easy to read.

Vinous

The 2017 La Fleur Vivaltus is a 100% Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero. A dark garnet-red in hue. The subtle, overripe aromas combine thyme with fruit jam. The palate is dry and firm with reactive tannins and a warm character that makes for an intense, liqueur-like mouthfeel. This is a sun-kissed red from a dry, curtailed vintage.
