A very rich and dense red with so much tannin and wood on the palate along with ripe fruit. A little over-extracted. Chewy at the end and astringent. Hard to get excited about. May be it will soften with age. Try after 2023.

The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino La Togata blends depths of black cherry, woodland and earth tones with hints of tangerine and sweet florals to form an attractive bouquet. This envelops the palate in mineral-tinged wild berries giving way to grippy tannins under an air of leather and cedar. Fine tannins come forward through the finale, where savory herbs and spices linger. The 2017 is a pleasant and balanced expression of the year.
