This is another new discovery from Paolo Calì. A release of 4,000 bottles, the 2014 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico Forfice seems much younger than it really is. Tasted six years after the harvest, this blend of equal parts Nero d'Avola and Frappato shows fresh and vibrant fruit with cassis, wild cherry and pressed violet. It offers a lean-bodied delivery with a polished and silky mouthfeel, perfect for the delicious Sicilian veggie soup, minestra di San Giuseppe, with plenty of grated cheese.

Medium red-ruby. Aromas of nutty red fruits and licorice. Offers decent concentration and sweetness, but has a strong herbal nuance to the woodsy red/blue fruit flavors. Bigger but not necessarily better than other Cerasuolo di Vittoria wines I tried from Calì this year, I think this could use a bit more clarity and depth of flavor. Finishes with dusty tannins and with a persistent note of dark berry liqueur.
