Three parcels from Blewitt Springs, McLaren Flat and Seaview (average age of vines 40 years) kept separate for the first 14 months maturation in French oak (20% new), then a barrel selection blended for the last 3 months. It is unashamedly full-bodied, with liqueur cherry, poached plum and blackberry jam fruit given the appropriate discipline of tar and ripe, but substantial tannins to bring it into balance .

A carefully-crafted wine that has impressive depth and drive, plenty of concentration and layered, long tannins that hold impressively long through the finish. Dark plums, blackberries and black cherries, chocolate and liquorice all run riot. Give this time, there's plenty in the tank. Drink in 2020.

We seem to be missing a review of the 2008 RSW, not sure why. Angelus is missing too. Maybe they did not make one. Not a powerhouse, shows finesse and restraint for a Flagship Shiraz, especially in the oak department, which is great to see. Cherries and blue fruit, touch of pepper, dark chocolate, smooth cinnamon and gentle oak spice. Medium bodied, silky tannin mesh, slight saline character and tarriness, good acid, light earthiness. Not overly layered and complex as a young wine, but with plenty of time on its side.

Medium to deep garnet/purple, the 2013 Shiraz RSW has tons of blackberry and spiced plum notes with menthol, spice box, cedar, vanilla and mocha hints. The densely packed palate is full and rich, shows good concentration and is structured by firm, grainy tannins and a long finish.

Full bodied, muscular and intense, this brooding Shiraz is built for the cellar. Smoke and blackberries are crunchy with acid and primary fruit, finishing crisp. Drink 2018–2025.
